Church Joins Huddersfield On Loan

Simon Church has gone to join Championship side Huddersfield on a month's loan. It gives the young striker a much needed opportunity to get some playing time that has been hard to come by since Jason Roberts was signed back in January.

This move comes as a little bit of a surprise given that Brian McDermott said the club were unwilling to let him go on loan until he signed a new contract, however that stance seems to have softened and Church will spend at least a month with the Terriers.

Since Kevin Doyle, Leroy Lita and Dave Kitson left the club in 2009, Church has constantly been battling it out to secure a place in the first XI, initially with great success as he broke double figures in the 2009/10 season. Sadly things haven't gone quite to plan since then and a return of just 11 goals from 77 appearances hasn't been up to scratch. Church has started 35 times in that period but lost his place permanently after Roberts arrived in January 2012.

This season Church has managed just a handfull of minutes against Arsenal in the cup as a late, late sub and has otherwise been restricted to appearing in the under 21's or for Wales.

Hopefully Church can find the goalscoring form he showed three years ago and come back as a viable Premier League option.
