Reading Player Of The Month: October

After our unbeaten run in September, the Royals were brought back down to earth in October with defeat away at Burnley, and two disappointing draws against Millwall and Barnsley. But who came out of the month with most credit for Reading? You decide...

Ben Hoskins

In alphabetical order...

Danny Guthrie

Average Rating: 6.625 (4 apps); MOTM: 2nd Burnley (A); 3rd Doncaster (H)

Guth took home the first two Player Of The Month awards but this month hasn't been the best for the former Newcastle midfielder. Though he came 2nd in the voting at Burnley, that was behind the runaway winner Alex McCarthy, and his 3rd at home to Doncaster was again a long way behind the resurgent Pavel Pogrebnyak. We've started to see in the last few games that teams are figuring him out, but he's been consistent through the month and deserves another nomination.

Garath McCleary

Average Rating: 6.33 (3 apps); MOTM: 1st Barnsley (A), 2nd Doncaster (H)

The good and the bad from the Jamaican winger this month, as he registered a 1st and 2nd in his two good games, but was nowhere to be seen in the home game with Millwall. Of course, his performance against Doncaster (3 assists and 1 goal) was overshadowed by Pog, but he got the award at Barnsley in a pretty tight MOTM poll. As with every winger, there'll be good days and bad days - are his two good performances enough to win him the award for October?

Sean Morrison

Average Rating: 6.00 (4 apps); MOTM: 1st Millwall (H)

The Reading captain hasn't had the best of months, but he certainly kept the draw intact at home to Millwall with a good performance at the back - as well as opening the scoring with a towering header. Whilst we didn't keep a clean sheet throughout the month of October, Morrison has looked more comfortable than his centre-back partner Alex Pearce at the back, and gets the nomination for that MOTM performance at home to the lions.

Jordan Obita

Average Rating: 6.33 (3 apps); MOTM: 2nd Millwall (H), 3rd Burnley (A)

A promising month for the Academy product, who has started to see first team football and seize his chances with some exciting play. He took the free-kick for the goal against Millwall, and looked dangerous enough to nab 2nd in our vote, whilst his performance at Burnley was also good enough to secure 3rd place for that match. Still has more to learn obviously, but Nigel Adkins clearly believes in the young winger.

Pavel Pogrebnyak

Average Rating: 6.25 (4 apps); MOTM: 1st Doncaster (H)

As with most of our players, a mixed month for Big Pav, but his performance against Doncaster was one to remember for every Royals fan - beating out the unlucky, aforementioned Garath McCleary for MOTM in that poll. He also forced the consolation goal at Burnley - but his two disappointing games against Millwall and Barnsley bring his rating back down to earth.

So there are the nominees, but who do you think deserves to be named Reading's Player of the Month for October? Vote in the poll below - you've got until Wednesday 13th...
