Reading FC's Player of the Month - April 2013

It's safe to say that April 2013 won't go down particularly fondly with Reading fans, who saw the club relegated after just one season back in the Premier League. Despite that there were a few bright moments and here's our shortlist for player of the month based on our player ratings.

Jamie McDonald

Danny Guthrie: Games: 4 Average Rating: 6.75

Nigel Adkins has slowly been getting the best out of Danny Guthrie who put in a string of good displays last month with the highlight being the 8/10 he was given for his efforts in the 0-0 draw with QPR. Guthrie could be a key component in our midfield next season so here's hoping he continues on an upward trend.

Jobi McAnuff: Games: 4 Average Rating: 7

I'm going to sound contraversial here but I think McAnuff has probably been one of our best players this season. Now while that could also be read as a damning condemnation of our squad over 36 games, I prefer to look at it in a positive light and give a pat on the back to our captain who has given everything he has this season. Last month he put in a series of solid performances, never scoring lower than a six and he deserves a bit of praise after receiving some pretty terrible stick this season.

Alex McCarthy: Games: 3 Average Rating: 7.6

McCarthy returned with a bang to produce one of the finest goalkeeping performances we've seen from a Reading 'keeper in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool. Sadly that was followed up with a shaky display at Norwich but another clean sheet at QPR rounded off a good month for the former England U21.

Garath McCleary: Games: 4 Goal: 1 Average Rating: 6.5

We had to find a place on the shortlist for the only Reading player to actually score a goal last month. To be fair it was a pretty good goal at Norwich and if that's the last goal he scores he'd be pretty happy with it.

So those are your choices, we'll give you until Tuesday morning to get your votes in!
