Ipswich 2-0 Reading: Instant Reaction

Well that run was fun while it lasted wasn't it? Reading came back down to earth with a bump as Ipswich recorded a 2-0 win up at a rain-swept Portman Road. Reading had their chances but some poor decisions at both ends saw a first league defeat of 2014.

Two second half goals from Daryl Murphy & Paul Anderson gave Mick McCarthy's side a win over a Reading team unchanged after their 7-1 win over Bolton last week.

Pavel Pogrebnyak and Nick Blackman had excellent chances for Reading, who also had strong appeals for a penalty turned down but Alex McCarthy was also busy and Ipswich deserve plenty of credit for a hard fought win.

The only other incident of note was a nasty clash between Stephen Hunt and Alex McCarthy that saw Hunt booked, with the former Reading player creating the opener for Murphy just minutes later.

It was pleasing to hear about a Reading team full of passion and creating chances but once again it sounded like a side just missing that extra bit of quality you need to become a top two side. With luck and players returning from injuries the play-offs remain a very valid target but without reinforcements there's little chance of automatic promotion this season.

We'll have a full report and set of player ratings up later this weekend but please feel free to leave your thoughts here.
