With a much-needed win on the horizon against bottom-of-the-table Blackpool, Adkins stuck with a 4-4-2 as Glenn Murray came into the starting line-up.
It was Murray who opened the scoring, flicking a header straight at keeper Joe Lewis, which was bundled into the net by the visiting goalie to see The Royals take the lead.
A somewhat wayward game, short in action, was sealed when substitute Jake Taylor finished off from a corner, condemning The Seasiders to another defeat.
Jamie Mackie still had time to miss a great chance from five yards, and in stoppage time Blackman won a penalty- rolled in by the man himself.
That leaves The Royals 14th, and closer to the play-offs (5 points) than the relegation zone (7), and a trip to Blackburn awaits.
Finally, a thought on Blackpool, who were awful and sit 7 points away from safety...
