Mixed Fortunes for Midfield Pair

Ben Hoskins

Reading's treatment room gives with one hand... and takes with the other, as the last couple of days has seen key players move in different directions in their rehabilitation from injuries. As reported by Get Reading, midfielder Danny Williams has taken a big step towards full fitness having declared himself available to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. That said, the weekend could come too soon for the American international, with Nigel Adkins probably unwilling to risk one of last season's top players by rushing him back too soon.

However, in predictably frustrating news, the club have confirmed that Danny Guthrie has encountered yet another injury problem. Having been in training last week, another calf problem has flared up, with results on that being awaited as things stand.

"I want to fight for my team-mates, for my club. If the gaffer wants me to play, I'm ready."

Danny Williams.

The club have also released information on other players currently sidelined; Aaron Tshibola got 90 minutes against Brighton for Reading's u21s on Monday (the same game that Danny Williams and Anton Ferdinand featured in). Also, Shaun Cummings is stepping up his rehab and should join in more training next week, whereas Craig Tanner's return is some way off with more analysis needed on his knee injury.

This follows news earlier in the week surrounding Danny Williams and Anton Ferdinand, which you can read here.
