Garath McCleary and Shaun Cummings took a step closer to first team involvement on Tuesday afternoon with the duo each playing 45 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly against Oxford United. As the club have reported, McCleary and Cummings were both scheduled to complete the first half of the game, and both did so without complications. The match at Hogwood finished 2-2, with Liam Kelly and Tarique Fosu getting on the scoresheet for the Royals.

McCleary has been out of action since the end of last season with a broken back that he somehow managed to play through, scoring some terrific goals along the way. Cummings meanwhile has made several appearances this season, mainly starting at left back, and managed to open his account for the club on the opening day against Wigan.

The Jamaican duo will continue their rehab over the next week or so, with Reading Post reporter Charles Watts confirming that they are scheduled to turn out in a friendly on Saturday.
