Clarke Scouting Portuguese League?

With the January transfer window just around the corner and a new manager in place, it's no surprise to see the odd transfer rumour popping up. Today there's a report linking Reading with a scouting mission in the Portuguese top flight.

Website Off The Post claim that local press identified a Reading scout at Estoril's 1-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes this weekend, though there's no mention of who they might be keeping an eye on.

The same website also report that scouts from Monaco, Barcelona and Celtic were all at the same game, so if there's a bidding war on we don't rate our chances.....

This wouldn't be the first time we've targeted someone from Portugal, with Kalifa Cisse arriving from Boavista in 2007 and Daniel Carrico from Sporting in January 2013.

However it's always worth taking these reports with a pinch of salt, especially after Reading's Director of Football Nick Hammond already warned that there's limited scope for investment in January, a message repeated by Steve Clarke during his opening press conference.

Anyway, should you fancy doing some scouting of your own here's a link to the highlights from that very match.
