Adam Federici Not Part Of Australia's Asian Cup Squad

Reading's new manager Steve Clarke received some good news this morning after Australia's Head Coach Ange Postecoglou announced his 23 man squad for the upcoming Asian Cup.

Reading's first choice goalkeeper Adam Federici has not been included in Australia's squad for the 2015 Asian Cup.

Last month The Tilehurst End reported that the 29 year old was unsure whether he wanted to be part of the Socceroos' squad if he was only going to be back-up.

Federici's chances of playing were always unlikely, as his year spent as understudy to Alex McCarthy had seen Mat Ryan of Club Brugge cement his place as the Aussies' number one.

Mitchell Langerak, who has recently become Borussia Dortmund's first choice goalkeeper, has been the only other goalkeeper consistently called up by Postecoglou, so Federici would likely have only been Australia's third choice 'keeper.

Being a proud Australian, Federici no doubt had a heavy heart turning down his country, especially as the chance to be part of a home tournament does not come around too often.

But with his Reading contract running out next summer, and a new manager to impress, Federici chose his head over his heart.

Adelaide United's Eugene Galekovic is the man who has been called up instead.
