Australian broadcaster SBS has reported that Reading had a loan bid for West Brom left back Jason Davidson turned down.
The 23 year old, who has lost his place in the Australia national team due to a lack of game time for Albion, was open to a temporary move away from the Hawthorns in a bid to recapture the position he played three times at the World Cup.
But the Royals were rebuffed with sources saying that Baggies coach Alan Irvine informed Davidson this week that his immediate future lies with Albion's first team squad.
There had been speculation that Davidson was set to be offloaded in the January transfer window.
The news that Nigel Adkins was looking to sign a left back will not surprise Reading fans. Jordan Obita may have won player of the season last season, playing the majority of his games there, but long term questions remain whether that is his best position.
In recent weeks, stand-in captain Chris Gunter has been the Royals' left back, but a left footed left back will surely be a priority for Adkins in the January transfer window. The future of Davidson may be worth watching.
