Instant Reaction: Barnsley defeat

Reading's poor home form continued this Tuesday evening as Yorkshiremen Barnsley came, saw and conquered Fortress Madejski.

We'll have a full report'n'ratings up soon, so in the mean time here is the key info:

3 changes were made for the starting line up; banned Danny Guthrie dropped out alongside Adam Le Fondre and Hal Robson-Kanu. Big Russian Pavel Pogrebnyak came in up front, with Jobi Mcanuff dropping into centre midfield and bringing wingers Nick Blackman and Garath McCleary off of Saturday's bench.

The game struggled to really get going, and the usually reliable Chris Gunter sloppily gave the ball away to allow Dawson to fire Barnsley ahead. But, Reading were level 3 minutes later as The Pog was felled in the area, dispatching the resultant penalty.

At half-time it seemed as if a kick up the backside would send Reading out towards a dominant performance. Sadly, Reading seemed to go backwards, conceding first from youngster Reuben Nobel-Lazarus and then a strong 25-yarder from Dale Jennings. After that? Very little. Alex Pearce forced a good save late on, but no one can argue they didn't perform tonight.

So, the full report will be up before long and your chance to agonise over a man of the match.
I'll leave you with a final statistic: before tonight Barnsley had scored just 11 while winning one of their away games this season. Typical Reading, eh?
