Starting the Middlesbrough game, Danny and Hal picked up knocks and were subbed off, and that has made them major doubts for the Doncaster game, as we discovered today on the Podcast Extra.
Danny Guthrie has been suffering from a calf injury in the last few weeks, and Nigel Adkins knew the risk of playing the central midfielder last Tuesday. The risk perhaps paid off as Reading won that crucial game, but the next and those beyond seem to be without him after he tweaked his calf and was forced off. He was visibly annoyed at getting injured on Tuesday, and this opens up the opportunity for Hope Akpan or Mikele Leigertwood to partner Danny Williams in central midfield.
The podcast, with GetReading's Charles Watts, also revealed the plight of Robson-Kanu. The Welsh international played up front with Adam Le Fondre on Tuesday and started well in the target-man role, yet a clash of heads as he attacked a cross led to a blood injury to his nose and he was subbed off. Again, this has led to him being labelled a major doubt for the Doncaster game, leaving Pavel Pogrebnyak free to start on Saturday should Reading play a 4-4-2.
The podcast extra also talks up the U21s cup win, the takeover and more on Saturday's game, listen here.
