Squad Numbers Confirmed

First XI numbers for Guthrie, Robson-Kanu and Morrison as Drenthe is dropped from squad list.

Laurence Griffiths

As ever with squad numbers, those in the first XI are adjudged to be those valued the most, but it's hard to say that with The Royals' list this season.

The full list is as follows (via ReadingFC.co.uk):

Squad List 2014/15
Adam Federici
Chris Gunter
Stephen Kelly
Alex Pearce
Sean Morrison
Pavel Pogrebnyak
Danny Guthrie
Hal Robson-Kanu
Jordan Obita
Garath McCleary
Reading Fans
Michael Hector
Hope Akpan
Aaron Tshibola
Alex McCarthy
Jem Karacan
Nick Blackman
Daniel Williams
Shaun Cummings
Jake Taylor (shirt to read J.Taylor)
Pierce Sweeney
Craig Tanner
Aaron Kuhl
Dominic Samuel
Mikkel Andersen
Sean Long
Shane Griffin
Niall Keown
Jake Cooper
Ryan Edwards
Jack Stacey
Liam Kelly – (shirt to read L.Kelly)
Tariqe Fosu
Stuart Moore
Daniel Lincoln
Jonathan Henly

With plenty of academy players occupying the upper tier of numbers, we see Adam Federici retain the No. 1 jersey, and Stephen Kelly holds onto No. 3. What's more, Jordan Obita has risen to No. 11 and Robson-Kanu takes Le Fondre's empty No. 9 slot. Jem Karacan, possibly at his own request, is now No. 21 with young central midfielder Aaron Tshibola up to No. 18.
We also understand that Jake Taylor has asked to keep the 'J' before his name.

The omission of Drenthe is worth noting, even if it's unsurprising. This is another nail in the coffin of his Reading career, now we know he has pulled on the shirt for the final time we must await his departure.
