Reading Captaincy Given To Karacan

The new Reading captain is Jem Karacan.

Harry Engels

The Catford-born central midfielder has been confirmed by Nigel Adkins as the full-time Royals captain, as he comes back from a year out with injury.

A popular figure amongst the fans and players, former Turkish youth international Karacan has shown excellent progression from the Reading academy to leading the club. Having signed a professional deal in 2007, Jem made his debut the following year and recently took up the No. 21 jersey at the club.

Easing himself out of injury troubles will be his first job as captain, following a broken ankle in 2012 he ruptured his anterior cruciate and medial knee ligaments 11 months ago and is nearing a return.

Injury no doubt played a role as he took 23% of the vote in our fans poll to succeed Jobi Mcanuff earlier in the summer, behind Alex Pearce, and we wholeheartedly congratulate him. Best of luck Jem!
