After the recent takeover of Reading Football Club, many fans were hoping for some new arrivals to add to the young and small-sized squad. Now, I expected any potential signings to come in towards the end of the month, but within a week of the takeover being completed we were being linked to 4 new players. Yes, and believe me you did read that number correctly, 4 players were being linked into the club.
I will go through these players and discuss what impact they could have on the club, should they end up joining.
Simon Cox- After an unsuccessful spell with the Royals from 2005-2008 in which he only made 2 first team appearances under the management of Steve Coppell , it seems the Reading born striker is on his way back to the Madejski. After scoring 13 goals in 75 appearances for Nottingham Forest, it is clear that Cox doesn't feature in Stuart Pearce's long term plans for the club as the mass exodus continues at the City Ground. Sky Sports also reported on the deal this morning with the fee being a reported £600,000 for the striker.
Jamie Mackie- When this story broke I was very excited at the prospect of seeing Mackie in action for the club. Although he doesn't have an amazing scoring record for a winger, I believe he could make a real difference in our youthful looking side. Reports say that this deal will be season long-loan deal for the former QPR winger.
Anton Ferdinand- This potential deal from another former QPR player looks set to go through in the near future. Ferdinand has been limited to only a number of appearances since leaving QPR and will be keen to get back playing regularly again. Reports say he was spotted at the Madejski Stadium for the friendly against Swansea which would obviously be a big hint to him joining the Royals in the near future.
Glenn Murray- The Crystal Palace striker was out injured for the majority of last season due to an injury suffered towards the end of the season in which Palace ended up getting promoted and was therefore limited to only a number of appearances for the club last season. It was reported that Reading had an interest in the player, and Palace are said to want around £3 million for their striker. There hasn't been a formal bid for the player at this stage but it remains to be seen whether Reading make a bid for the player, especially with Simon Cox and Jamie Mackie joining the club in the near future.
So that concludes my article on the potential arrivals at Reading FC and I hope to be writing another article like this in the near future with more potential signings coming into the club.
There is also a poll attached on who you think will have the biggest impact at the club, out of the 4 players I have spoken about.
