The club have officially confirmed that Royston Drenthe has completed a move to Turkish team Kayseri Erciyesspor. As has been reported in recent days, the Dutch winger has undergone a medical and agreed personal terms with the Super Lig side.
This is what Steve Clarke had to say about the move...
"Royston Drenthe is, without doubt, a talented player but sometimes, in football, transfers don't deliver what they promise. That's been the case for Royston at Reading FC so it's best for both parties that he moves on and we wish him well for the future."
Drenthe arrived at the club in June 2013 on reportedly very high wages. Despite a promising start, he lacked any consistency in his first season at the club, scoring only twice in a series of poor, lacklustre performances. That resulted in the former Real Madrid player not being allocated a squad number for the start of this campaign, and was sent out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. This month, he had been expected to relocate his career to China, but has since performed a U-Turn in favour of moving to Turkey.

This is a big financial boost for the club, as a permanent transfer out of Berkshire takes some fairly hefty wages off the books. With concerns over Financial Fair Play, this gives Reading much more leeway, with the potential of some of those wages being reinvested this month.
Stay tuned to The Tilehurst End for all Reading-related transfer news this month. We have a feeling that there's more good news to come.
