Reading FC Loanees Make Instant Impacts

Earlier in the week we brought news of two loan moves for promising Reading youngsters. Yesterday they showed just why they're so highly thought of.

Both Dominic Samuel and Tariqe Fosu made loan switches away from Reading over the past seven days. Fosu made a move to League One Fleetwood with Samuel also dropping down a division to League One Gillingham. Both were immediately thrown into matchday squads and both delivered for their new teams.

Samuel had the better day, with the forward scoring in his first league start since featuring for Coventry on loan in the same division last season. The 21-year-old started and took just six minutes to find the net as he fired home on the rebound from close range as Gillingham beat Bury 3-1 (keep an eye out for the third goal in that one as well!).

Reacting to his performance, Gillingham fans were pretty happy with Dominic's debut display.

"Looked to have a good temperament; worked hard against some tough Bury defenders with skill and commitment and looked to have some confidence in front of goal."

"I was extremely impressed. Lots of energy, bit of pace, but still strong enough to put it about a bit. Good first touch and played the simple ball."

Fosu didn't manage to break into Fleetwood's starting lineup against Peterborough but he did make an impact from the bench as he produced a sharp turn and pass on the edge of the box to feed David Ball to equalise. Sadly it proved to be a losing debut with a late Jermaine Anderson goal giving Posh a 2-1 win but it was a useful 25 minute run out for the young Reading winger in what was just his second professional appearance.

We'll have much more on their performances as well as all the other Reading players on loan elsewhere in our next loan report, which you can expect in the next couple of weeks right here on The Tilehurst End.
