A couple of days ago The Sun reported on a rumour that had Steve Clarke in a three-way battle for the Fulham job with Nigel Pearson and Paul Tisdale, now another paper is reporting that Clarke has won that battle and will take the job tomorrow.
The report claims that Clarke 'sees more potential in Fulham than Reading' which is quite a statement in itself given that Fulham are below Reading in the table, have a lower average attendance and have spent considerably less in the transfer market over the summer. Still to give Fulham their due, they were a team who spent the best part of a decade in the Premier League, reached a Europa League final and have an ambitious owner in Shahid Khan all factors that seem to have lured the Scot away. Obviously Khan was mightily impressed with the way Clarke's team conceded three goals inside ten minutes at Craven Cottage a few weeks ago.....
Obviously for now it's speculation but with the bookmakers also having Clarke as a rampant 1/4 favourite to be the next Fulham manager, the signs have now escalated from 'you what?!' to 'no way!'
Get Reading reporter and Tilehurst End Podcast Extra Co-Host Charles Watts is also backing up the story.
I'm sad and shocked to say this, but from what I understand it looks like Steve Clarke is on his way to Fulham. #readingfc
