Reading go into their second week now without a full time manager in place, as they come up against Preston, under caretaker Martin Kuhl this weekend. Betting this game will be extremely tough given the reaction to the sacking of Clarke is not going to see the "new manager syndrome" with Kuhl having ruled himself out of the role.
Preston host the game as slight favourites over the Royals at 17/10, with Reading price at 2/1. The draw at 9/4 shows there is little seen between the two teams, with the form tables over the last six mirroring that fact, with Preston on nine points in six games, and Reading having picked up five points.
Preston have been a very low scoring side this season, scoring just six home goals so far at home, and conceding only eight. The odds of 8/5 for this game to go over 2.5 show that goals may be very limited throughout the match. Under 2.5 comes in at just 1/2, with Reading's struggles in front of goals continuing. With Kuhl now in with Reading, there may be a change in impetus from this Reading side, and despite the indications showing the under 2.5, the odds on the over 2.5 are too tempting not to ignore this weekend.
With the lack of goals in games at Deepdale, it may come as no surprise that there has been 5/9 games as draws at HT this year at Preston. Reading however have had only one away game so far when they have gone in level at the break. With this in mind, betting one goal exact in the first half, again at 8/5, could be worth a small gamble.
The danger men for Preston this season have been Joe Garner (6/1) who got his first goals earlier this month, and on loan signing Will Keane from Man Utd (8/1) also may be worth a look at first goalscorer. However, midfielder Daniel Johnson who has scored five goals in 12 games in the league this season for the Lilywhites is a good bet at 10/1 for FGS. From a Reading perspective, it is tough to place cash without knowing how Kuhl will line up the side this weekend.
Preston are one of the worst disciplined sides this season, averaging 2.25 yellow cards a game so far, and have had four red cards so far this year. A red card to be shown is currently priced at 9/2, and with Reading also having had their one red card this year, I would place a small bet on this, with Preston only having gained one home win so far this season, I would expect them to come out firing against a poor Reading side, which may lead to some over the top play from both sides.
1 goal in the first half @ 8/5
Over 2.5 Goals @ 8/5
Johnson FGS @ 10/1
Red Card shown @ 9/2
