The club sacked Steve Clarke last week after a run of 1 win in 9 games and a flirtation with Fulham saw the Thai owners lose confidence with the Scottish manager.
Various journalists have reported that the hold-up in announcing Brian McDermott was the Thai owners were searching for a bigger 'name' in case they missed one, but that now seems to have been put on the back burner, with a manager who knows the club and can rally the troops holding the strongest hand.
