Reading FC To Strengthen In January?

Brian McDermott is keen to bring in new players next month but not on loan.

With the transfer window set to open, Reading's manager Brian McDermott has not surprisingly made it clear he will be looking at freshening up the squad telling Get Reading, "if we can strengthen then we will."

The Royals currently have six players on loan but only five are allowed to be selected within matchday squads. Being forced to leave one loanee out what a problem that McDermott's predecessor Steve Clarke often commented on and some fans have felt the number of loanees has had a bad effect on the balance of the squad.

This was commented on by McDermott and perhaps gives rise to the possibility of one of the loanees returning to their parent club.

One of the things we’ve got is six loan players here - when you can only play five at a time. So I would suggest that having another loan situation would be difficult. If we’re going to strengthen, in my opinion it needs to be players who will come in and be Reading players. That’s important.
