Former Royals Manager Sees Odds For Return Shorten

Could a former Reading manager be set for a return to the club? The bookies have been shifting their odds over the past 24 hours with a title winning gaffer strongly linked with a return.

Within minutes of yesterday's news that Reading had parted company with Steve Clarke, the bookmakers already had odds available as to who might take the hot seat.

Nigel Pearson was installed as the early favourite and 24 hours later he's seen as an even stronger candidate with several major bookmakers making him odds on to take over at the Mad Stad. The best price you can currently get is 4/6 with the shortest odds just 1/2.

Brian McDermott was initially rated a 12/1 chance to take over for a second time but his odds have now come in significantly to the point where he's as little as 3/1 to return to the club. Sticking with former managers and how does 22/1 sound for a second Brendan Rodgers reign? Or what about 33/1 for Steve Coppell coming back? If it's former Reading players you're after then Phil Parkinson is 6/1 with SkyBet but as much as 12/1 with Paddy Power

So what about the more random names? Dennis Bergkamp was the big rumour last night and he's as low as 6/1 and as much as 12/1 depending on which bookmaker you go with. Guy Luzon's name also popped up on a few websites last night and he's between 10's and 20's.

As always it's worth noting that manager betting is a fairly volatile market where it only takes one substantial bet to really swing some odds so take these with a pinch of salt.

We'll of course keep you right up to date with all the latest developments here on The Tilehurst End.
