The 32-year-old was a free agent after leaving Qatari side Al-Rayyan and joins Steve Clarke's men until the end of the season.

A long and fruitful Premier League career saw the Nigerian regularly bang the goals in for Portsmouth, Middblesbrough, Everton, then-Championship big-spenders Leicester City, and Blackburn. in fact, his last English season saw the striker net 17 goals in 30 Blackburn appearances during the 2011/12 season.

Gone are the way of merely tweeting a player's capture, now Vine is fine for the Royals- announcing the signing with a six-second clip (below).

The veteran, who spent the last couple of years in Asia with Chinese side Guangzhou R&F before his spell in the Arabian peninsula, has also given his first interview to the club's official webiste, which you can watch below.

The Yak will take number 20 in the Royals squad, and is so far Reading's only signing on transfer deadline day.

To whet the appetite, and give an idea or two for a chant for Yakubu, who is expected to go into the squad for Saturday's trip to Wolves, here is a video of his best bits from 2009. As ever, avoid the terrible music.
