The Young Royals took to the pitch hoping that a good performance would be enough to guarantee a spot in the finals of the U21 Premier League Cup, but it wasn't to be.
After an early Blackburn goal, Reading U21s went on to "dominate proceedings", as per ReadingFC.co.uk and levelled the game with a 79th minute Tarique Fosu low strike.
The holders were inches away from winning the game when youngster Harry Cardwell (who came in to replace the outgoing Uche Ikpeazu a couple of seasons ago) couldn't quite connect with a Jack Stacey cross.
Just minutes into the additional half an hour, Blackburn restored their lead with a penalty after Liam Kelly made a clumsy challenge in the area. Bauress scored and Reading couldn't quite get another goal that would have taken it to penalties, despite smacking the woodwork three times.
Blackburn will play in the final against one of Southampton or Derby County U21s in the final.
