Reading 2-0 Sheffied Wednesday: Media Wrap

Back to the Madjeski after a cold night at Millwall with 3 points, a good performance and a debut goal, the media had a lot to say about the game, by @davemc_exile.

The Royals returned to the Mad Stad on a brisk January Saturday looking to improve on the 0-0 draw with Millwall in both performance and result ... we got both.

The wrap

Starting with SkySports for a change, they ran the headline "Nathaniel Chalobah scores as Reading beat Sheffield Wednesday" and I must say I was impressed with him. It might be early in his career but I can't help comparing him to a Michael Essien style player—anyway back to the report: they actually give us credit and a glowing report, mentioning that the Owls were showing little substance in attack and that we were comfortable and held on with ease. Only critique I have with this report is "lowly Reading"... hmmm that's a little harsh!

I am starting to think that the BBC just don't like us. The report they have on us this game, and our weekly 30 seconds of fame on the TV, hardly give us any coverage and this report is factual but a little lacking in saying how the game was; they do call Robson-Kanu's penalty a "side foot into the keepers arms", which I suppose is better than Sky's "feeble and mis-directed" comment on it (but you must admit it was a dreadful pen).

Who else have we got? Well there's Sportsmole's report, which on the whole is OK, they say we eased past Sheffield. TalkSport's report... don't bother, it's only 21 words. TeamTalk's version, is basically SkySports effort, as is ESPN FC.

It's a little disappointing that the Yorkshire Evening Post coverage was again a Sky effort, I would have thought that they would have had their own coverage, however at least they changed the headline on it.

The Sheffield Telegraph give the game a good write up, mentioning that we were the dominant force and that Sheffield were a little lucky only to lose by 2 goals. They mention an "outstanding" save by Feds. This report is also carried by The Star (local online mag)

Looking at the official sites, the the Owls version of the game paints a remarkably different picture to what the Reading version has to say, with the Sheffield take on it basically saying that they were unlucky with their team asking numerous(!) questions of us. However the Reading version of events is all happy-smiley and loving the fact that they say that Pog was "scythed" down.

Charles Watts does his normal full roundup on GetReading, think he was happy with the performance, labeling us as "rampant"—not that I'm biased or anything, but we pretty much were in that game—and as always there is a pretty comprehensive coverage of all things on the game.

Finishing this week with our very own Wimb giving us his take on the game with The Tilehurst End's match report and as ever this is always the best read of the bunch.

Summary

All in all, some good, some bad and some lazy reports. TalkSport are officially in my bad books with their low or little coverage of anything outside the top two in the Championship.

As for the game? Well, a debut goal for Nathaniel (please Mr Mourinho can we keep him? He really isn't any good...  honest!) and Pog starting to really look like he has found some form.

Onto Wolves away and hoping that the Yak can have the same inspiration that Roberts did when he signed in January 2012.

I'm back next week with the media round up of what, hopefully, is the start of a run!
