Reading have made it two signings in two days this afternoon, with Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah arriving on loan until the end of the season. Appiah is a 24 year-old Ghanaian, and was originally linked with the club yesterday. Steve Clarke has confirmed that the deal was necessary because of injury worries over Simon Cox and Yakubu - who both missed out on Saturday against Charlton. With Nathan Ake arriving in Berkshire yesterday, it's clear that the gaffer feels we need more options in the squad going into the last part of the season.
Appiah is highly-rated at Palace, and has impressed recently for his country at the African Cup of Nations. He's also no stranger to the Football League, having played for Peterborough United before sealing a move to South London. Earlier this season, he was on loan at Cambridge United where he scored 8 goals.
He certainly adds something different - Appiah has pace to burn. We've lacked that for a number of years now, so this might take some getting used to. Chances are, Pavel Pogrebnyak will have an alternative partner to play up front alongside until the summer.
