McCleary Strike Nominated For Mitre Goal Of The Year

Garath McCleary's thunderous volley against Burnley has been nominated for the Mitre Football League Goal of the Year competition.

The award, which will coincide with the 2015 Football League Awards on April 19th and voting is now open for the public to pick their favourite.

You can watch the goal above, but to vote for GMac's sensational effort, click through this link - the competition involves a chance to win two tickets to the FL Awards ceremony next month, as well as £200 towards travel and accommodation. Now which one of us wouldn't enjoy a night chin-wagging with the football big-wigs? It will certainly be the perfect time to lobby for a re-introduction of the multi-ball system.

The Jamaican winger's strike was, of course, the last goal Reading scored in the ultimately-disappointing 2013/14 season as that day's 2-2 draw with Burnley ended our play-off hopes. It goes up against similarly memorable strikes from the likes of Preston's Joe Garner and Bournemouth's Yann Kermogant.
The full video of the nominees is to be found here.

If McCleary's goal wins the Football League award, it will sit alongside the Official Reading Goal of the Season and the even more prestigious The Tilehurst End Goal of the Season awards that the winger has already picked up.
