Needless to say this week's report is from a worldwide set of reports, basically as the FA Cup is the biggest cup competition in the world.
Also needless to say are the headlines, which although all talk about Adam Federici, the effort and the praise we get is uniformed.
So without futher waffling I will go into what the papers say.
Global
Starting with the worldwide press Setanta Sports (Ireland) run with "Sanchez sends Arsenal through" focusing mainly on the Chilian International. USA Today say that it was a poor Arsenal performance and the game seemed destined to go to penalties before Federici's error. NBC Sports (USA) again focus on Sanchez, but mention that Gareth McCleary's goal equalised to force an unlikely extra time period.
Another USA Today site, call it a difficult semi final, and that the blunder from Federici finally ended our resistance. Breaking News (Ireland) have a good detailed report making a nice point that before this game we had conceded only two goals in five matches in the FA Cup this season. Goal (South Africa) also give a detailed report however their ratings are a little harsh to say the least.
The National (USE) mention that Arsenal clearly hadn't learnt from previous FA Cup semis and Reading's pressing rendered them "impotent." The International Business Times (USA) call it an uncomfortable return to Wembley for Arsenal and that Reading were well drilled and high spirited.
Sports360 (Gulf) say that it was a pulsating clash where Reading FC more than held their own. Daily Nation (Kenya) call Arsenal "sloppy" and that for two years running they have been pushed by Championship sides. SBS (Australia) surprisingly are a little harsh on their countryman, call Federici's error "horrendous". Whereas The Standard (Kenya) say that Arsenal were "laboured" and Reading FC were unlucky not to get a penalty.
Stuff.co.nz(New Zealand) comment that Federici was in tears at the end and call it a "cruel" end to the game. Interestingly, The Bleacher Report say that Sanchez saved Arsenal's blushes and embarrassment. MLSSoccer focus on Danny Williams who they said "shined" in the game but was unable to help us get over the line.
The NZ Herald (New Zealand), Fox Sports (Australia), WA Today (Australia) all carry a similar story focusing on Federici's mistake, but say that Reading did enough. Whereas the Telegraph India (India) say that it was an unfortunate way for the game to end.
National
Right now that our global trip has come to an end - this is how the national press reported it.
The Daily Mail have a lot of sympathy towards us, also asking questions on some of the refereeing decisions and they have a poignant part of the story on Federici's input and our approach to the game. The Daily Star also has a lot of sympathy for Reading FC, saying that this was the season of the underdogs, and that Reading's midfield often outplayed Arsenal's.
BT Sports have an interview with Clarke with him quoted as saying the Royals must use this as a springboard to better things. The Independent led with the first line of "it's a cruel game" and that the Royals again didn't get the benefit of some dubious refereeing decisions.
The Mirror carry lots of videos with their report, including one of Federici heading back to the dressing room after the game, as well as saying we took the game to Arsenal. There's a video interview with Wenger saying that we surprised Arsenal on ESPN FC.
The Guardian focus on Arsenal's record at Wembley and how they struggle there, however do state that the Reading team emerged as "heroes".
Looking at our favorite GetReading, they have full coverage on the site and various reports and articles, however the match report is one that I am sure that hasn't been written this season, as it's full of understandable praise for the Reading team, with the paragraph "They were magnificent. From the towering Michael Hector, to the industrious Jamie Mackie, they gave Arsenal a fright they will never forget." I think that pretty much wraps up what everyone thinks.
Looking at the official sites for the final views, then Arsenal are very complimentary towards Reading, saying that we gave them an almighty scare and stretched them to the limit. The Reading FC site also carries on this theme calling it a brilliant display and a cruel ending. They also point to the offside decisions and the penalty claim, and that given we were playing one of the best teams in the country it was an even contest.
Summary
To wrap up what the media are saying - and this is a taste of the avalanche of reports and insights you can find on the game, Reading FC gave a performance which all the fans can be proud of, full of determination, grit, endeavor and some high quality football, we demonstrated what this team is capable of.
Some might ask where this performance has been for the rest of the season, that's a question for another day. Some also might point fingers at Federici, but that would be incredibly harsh given his input and the games that he has secured us this season. He is pretty much nailed on to be player of the season.
It was a stunning day out and one that we can saviour. Hopefully the team can use it as a springboard for next season and a promotion push.
