Starting XI

Adam Federici: 6

Took the ball out of the net after penalty and that was about it all evening

Chris Gunter: 5

Overlapped in first half but on different wavelength to McCleary. Booking summed up his evening

Zat Knight: 3

Dreadful performance. Low on confidence high on mistakes

Alex Pearce: 6

Defended strongly and covered for Knight well.

Jordan Obita: 7

Defended and counter attacked well. Good link play with Ake.

Oliver Norwood: 5

Numerous misplaced passes and on wrong end of Pearce's tongue more than once.

Nathan Ake: 8

On such a poor surface gave a very assured performance. Always looked to have more time than others. Held his own physically marking corners too.

Hal Robson-Kanu: 5

The enigma had a typical Robson-Kanu enigmatic performance.

McCleary: 5

Beat his fullback easily, but quality of delivery never matched his ability to get past the opposition.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni: 4

Too slow and never held the ball up to bring others into play.

Kwesi Appiah: 4

Game seemed to pass him by. One chance in first half which he missed, but generally anonymous.

Pavel Pogrebnyak: 7

Immediate impact with the cross for the goal. Worked hard, but needed greater service to be a real threat.

Jamie Mackie: 6

Tireless performance as usual, similar to Bradford on similar surface.

Simon Cox: 5

Little time or possession to make an impact
