Championship Winners Interested In Federici

Bournemouth are interested in signing Reading's out-of-contract goalkeeper Adam Federici, according to reports.

The Aussie goalkeeper was named player of the season at the Madejski Stadium as he reclaimed the goalkeeping custodianship from the departed Alex McCarthy. However, after signing a contract extension in August 2012 - coinciding with the Royals promotion to the Premier League - his current deal will shortly come to an end. While Reading have offered a new contract, he is now free to discuss terms and even sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs and the newly-promoted Cherries appear to be a possible destination.

This is according to Sky Sports, below, with the current knowledge being purely of 'interest'. Of course, Artur Boruc was the number one keeper at the Goldsands Stadium in 2014/15, but this was on a loan spell from Southampton and the 35-year-old is now expected to become a free agent as his contract with the Saints expires in June.

Boruc has expressed a desire to stay with Bournemouth, as he would, but no Reading fan could seriously begrudge Federici leaving to become first-choice for a Premier League side. Furthermore, there is little doubt that he would be on a far better salary as the offered extension by Reading is expected to be on much-reduced terms.

It has not been a great day for Feds, meanwhile, as he was dropped from the Australian national squad due to play a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Kyrgzstan. Something that will perhaps serve as a timely indication of the necessity of top division football for his career.

What do you make of the rumour? Could you seen him leaving for Bournemouth? Comment below.
