Tariqe Fosu Offered New Reading Deal

But could the out-of-contract winger be heading to a Premier League squad this off-season?

Cast your mind back to our final game of last season. Derby County at the iPro, on a horrendous run of form - even the most positive Reading fan thought we were up against it. Yet, somehow, the Royals came away with a 3-0 win to ruin any hopes the Rams had of play-off glory, and to end Steve McClaren's reign there.

One player who made a name for himself in front of the Sky cameras that day was Tariqe Fosu, the 19-year-old winger making his Reading debut from the bench after an injury to Jack Stacey. And what an impression he made, showing pace, skill, and a general freedom unseen in blue and white for many months.

Then came this from the teenager a few weeks ago...

Fosu is out of contract this summer and there are no shortage of suitors, with Newcastle, West Brom and Aston Villa among the Premier League clubs rumoured to want the winger.

It was confirmed yesterday that the Royals have made Fosu an offer, but naturally he doesn't have to accept it and can choose to ply his trade elsewhere next season. In that case, Reading would get a small compensation fee. After telling GetReading that the Madejski is where he wants to be, you'd have to hope that his head hasn't been turned and he can build on the promise he showed during that cameo next season.

Other names of note on that list from a Reading point of view are Pierce Sweeney, Niall Keown and Stuart Moore, all of whom have been offered new deals but could decide to head elsewhere. We'll have more for you on all the moves when (if) they happen...
