BBC Radio Sheffield has reported that Sheffield United are set to appoint former Reading manager Nigel Adkins as their new manager.
The Bramall Lane side will hold a news conference at 17:00 today, where Adkins is expected to be announced as the man to takeover from Nigel Clough. Clough was sacked last month shortly after the Blades lost to Swindon Town in the League One play-off semi-finals.
Adkins was sacked by the Royals in December after a humiliating 6-1 defeat away to Birmingham City. Interestingly, United had an approach for Reading legend and current Bradford City boss Phil Parkinson turned down last week.
Whilst his spell at the Madejski Stadium never worked out, few Reading fans will offer anything other than good luck to Adkins, who will be hoping it's a case of fifth time lucky when it comes to trying to take his new club back to the Championship.
