Some news outlets had reported on interest from Championship rivals Middlesbrough, which may have initiated the Royals into action, having had the advantage of Al-Habsi training with the club for the past week. That included 45 minutes in a Reading shirt against Thai All Stars on the club's recent tour to South East Asia.

Now, Get Reading claim that the signing will be confirmed in due course as all details have been agreed upon and the former Wigan goalkeeper is satisfied with extending his stay in Berkshire. Having let both first-team keepers go on free transfers at the end of last season, Reading have taken just a couple of weeks to replace Adam Federici and Mikkel Andersen by bringing in the 33-year-old and Watford man Jonathan Bond on permanent deals.

EDIT: We told you so.
