We've been running these polls ever since Clarke's appointment seven months ago, and only once had his rating gone above a 4 out of 5 - after his first month in charge with 4.15, as he stopped the rot and led Reading to one defeat in nine matches in all competitions.
Since then, it's been a rather up and down time for the Royals manager, as an excellent FA Cup run to the semi-finals was marred by indifferent performances in the League. We finished the season with Clarke getting a 3.29 out of 5; a 3-0 win away at Derby County giving hope to cling onto after scoring no goals in our final four home League matches.
Well, the past is forgotten, the season starts afresh in August - and that's reflected in your rating of Clarke with twenty days to go before the big kick-off. The off-season business has got you excited, the tour of Thailand has left you impressed, and the manager's plan, you hope, is coming together.
For the first time since January, Clarke is back above 4, but only just! We've counted up your votes and taken the average, and you've awarded him a 4.01 out of 5. Whilst we have lost three key players in Alex Pearce, Adam Federici and Jem Karacan, the acquisition of six new recruits, including Stephen Quinn, Paul McShane and Orlando Sa, has certainly got you back on side. And with the goalkeeping crisis now turning into a duel, what looked a weakness now could be a strength as we prepare for the new Championship season.
Thanks for all your votes as ever - the results, as well as the timeline of Clarke's approval rating, are below. And stay tuned for Monday morning, when we'll be asking you to turn your attentions to matters off the pitch, and your satisfaction with the owners...
