The club today announced that the 21 year old from Oxford had penned a new deal which sees him commit his future to The Royals until 2018. This is more welcome news for Reading fans ahead of the new season.
Last year Obita may have not matched the heights of his breakthrough season, when he won the Player of the Year award, but he remains a player with a bright future. Indeed our own editor Will Jones described him yesterday, in his review of Reading's full backs, as a player who "is not going to transform a team but he could be a significant part of a transformation in a team."

It will be interesting to watch his development in the coming years and in particular to see if he moves from the left back which he has made his own in the last two seasons. Reading manager Steve Clarke expressed his delight at the news and said:
"He is a young player with a great future ahead and the fact that he trusts us here at Reading to help him develop and take his game to the next level is good news for all concerned."
