The Austrian sports newspaper Sport24 reported yesterday that Reading have tabled another bid for Rapid Vienna striker Robert Berić. The supposed bid was €4.8 million (£3.4 million), which still falls short of the €5.4 million (£3.8 million) price tag that Die Grün-Weißen's Sporting Director Andreas Müller is said to have set.
Interestingly, the newspaper wonders whether Rapid are strong enough to reject such a deal. The report also mentions that Berić has turned down a new contract that would have seen his wages increase from €600,000 to €700,000 a year. They also speculate that the Royals' contract offer to the Slovenia international is £17,000 a week (€1,300,000 a year) with bonuses on top.
Another Austrian sports newspaper, SportNet, believes that Berić's agent is already in talks with the Royals and quotes Müller as saying that Rapid are already looking at possible replacements, with Red Bull Salzburg striker Marco Djuricin being one name mentioned.
Whether there are real foundations to these reports remains to be seen. However, it seems likely that we will hear more about this transfer rumour. The Tilehurst End will keep you up to date with any developments.
