The first Tuesday night fixture of the season was away at Colchester and it was another good performance with thanks to an extra time winner from the unlikely source of Chris Gunter.

Steve Clarke left the press to assistant manager Kevin Keen who was pleased with the performance, he told the Official Club website

"It was a really pleasing result in the end especially as the game went on it was a little bit of a war attrition. But as the game went on we started to break down their defence and eventually we got there with a really good goal from Chris Gunter.

"Chris is an incredible athlete in getting up and down the pitch, and it was great watching him in pre-season. There have been two or three over pre-season like Nick Blackman tonight, it was a fantastic shift from him."

Keen also spoke to GetReading reporter Charles Watts and said:

"We put in a good performance on Saturday and we were on the wrong end of the result, but we've come here, put in another good performance, created chances and we've come through it.

"We showed a lot of character and scored a really good goal.  So it's a positive to build on ahead of three games in six days next week."
