Reading will face Portsmouth away in the second round of the League Cup this season. After Chris Gunter's 115th minute winner against Colchester on Tuesday, the Royals earned a place in the hat and were one of the seeded teams for the draw.
League Two Pompey, who like Reading, have never won the competition, knocked out the Championship's Derby County on Wednesday evening and will be hoping to create another upset. It was the Rams who defeated the Royals last season in this competition.
Reading and Portsmouth have not met since the 2011-12 season, when both games finished 1-0 to the home side, with Noel Hunt scoring the winner in Berkshire.
The tie at Fratton Park will more than likely be played on Tuesday 25th August, unless it is moved for TV coverage. It will be Reading's eighth away cup game in ten matches - excluding last season's FA Cup semi-final.
