Squad selector was one of the toughest in recent memory this week, as the flurry of new signings made the decision of who to start a tricky one. I think we all agree that such great competition for places is always a good thing, but I don’t envy Steve Clarke when he picks his side tonight!
Having said that, the back five that has featured most prominently this season has once again been chosen by you to start against Ipswich, and it’s a pretty unanimous decision. Jonathan Bond (92.8%) takes the goalkeeping jersey, whilst the defence includes the most picked player Chris Gunter (98.8%), Paul McShane (98.4%), Anton Ferdinand (97.2%) and Jordan Obita (93.2%). Last season’s Player of the Year nominee Michael Hector (6.4%) is still nowhere near the side in your opinion.
In midfield, the spots out wide go to Garath McCleary (74.8%) and Stephen Quinn (46.8%), with the central positions being handed to Danny Williams (90%) and Oliver Norwood (80%). Upfront, you want deadline day signing Matej Vydra (86%) to go straight into the team alongside Orlando Sa (82%), who scored his first Royals goal against Brentford last time out.
So that starting XI has two changes in it from the trip to Griffin Park, with top scorer and your player of the month Nick Blackman (33.2%) dropping out as well as Hal Robson-Kanu (8.4%).
Substitutes: Ali Al-Habsi, Andrew Taylor, Michael Hector, Paolo Hurtado, Lucas Piazon, Ola John, Nick Blackman
That means that Robson-Kanu drops out of the squad completely, as do Simon Cox, Aaron Tshibola and Alex Fernandez. Happy or surprised about this? Let us know in the comments below.
