It appeared to be a straight-forward deal for 23-year-old Rakels, the Royals paying off the attacker's €500,000 buy-out clause to add their third signing of the January transfer window. However, reports in Poland suggest the player has travelled to Spain without the permission of his club.
According to *clears throat* przegladsportowy.pl, Rakels left training without permission and travelled to Spain, where he is rumoured to be on trial or undergoing a medical for an unknown team. Indeed, Cracovia coach Jacek Zielinski refused to talk about Rakels' transfer when recently questioned.
A punishment will likely be laid upon the striker for leaving without permission, whether or not he departs the Krakow outfit, but his destination is unclear. Reading have been strongly linked but Belgian side Club Brugge and Polish team Legia Warsaw are also rumoured to be interested. Rumours abide in Poland that Legia will be Rakels' final destination, but Club President Boguslaw Lesnodorski has refused to confirm or deny a move for the Cracovia man.
Will Reading get their man? Stay tuned to The Tilehurst End for the latest updates.
