Alex Fernandez became the first Spanish player to sign for Reading when he joined on loan from Espanyol in the summer, and he could be about to be joined by compatriot and fellow central midfielder Javier Matilla.

According to Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo, the 27 year old, who is currently a free agent, is "undergoing a thorough medical examination" ahead of a proposed move to Berkshire, but he also has other options available.

Matilla was most recently at Real Betis, who he earned promotion to La Liga with last season, whilst he has also played for Villarreal and has one cap for Spain's Under 21s. Have a watch of him in action:

Having just signed George Evans, do Reading need another central midfielder? Leave your comments on the rumour below.
