Reading dropped out of the League Cup tonight after a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored both goals for the Gunners, who go through to the fifth round of the competition.

Jaap Stam made several changes to the side that won 0-1 at Rotherham at the weekend, bringing in Tennai Watson, Liam Kelly, Jordan Obita and Dominic Samuel.

(4-5-1) Al-Habsi; Watson, Moore, Blackett, Obita; McCleary, Evans, Kelly, Van den Berg, Harriott; Samuel.

Subs: Moore, Gravenberch, Quinn, Wieser, Swift, Meite, Kermorgant.

Reading gave a good account of themselves on the whole, keeping possession well and mostly looking very comfortable against their Premier League opponents. However, despite facing a reserve Arsenal side, they failed to create any really good opportunities.

Questions will again be asked of Jaap Stam, who made some bizarre substitutions during the match. Although Yann Kermorgant replaced Callum Harriott (a normal enough attacking switch), Danzell Gravenberch and Stephen Quinn were introduced later on, when the likes of John Swift and Yakou Meite were available.

We'll have more reaction later on with an in-depth match report, player ratings and more, so stay tuned to The Tilehurst End.
