Player Of The Month - January 2016

New, comments

Just one league win in four for the Royals in January, but another cup run has got fans dreaming of walking up Wembley Way for the second year in a row. Who impressed you most last month? Vote here!

In alphabetical order...

Chris Gunter

Average rating: 6.14 (7 appearances); Man Of The Match wins: 1st= (Sheffield Wednesday H), 3rd (Walsall H)

Mr Dependable averaged just over our average rating throughout January, playing every minute and performing just as we know he can. Of course it's getting to the stage where he's playing for a new contract - and 93% of you believe he should be offered one by the club. If he continues in this vein for the rest of the season, there should be little hesitation to put pen to paper.

Hal Robson-Kanu

Average rating: 7 (6+1 appearances); Man Of The Match wins: 1st (Derby County A), 1st= (Sheffield Wednesday H), 1st (Huddersfield Town A), 2nd= (Huddersfield Town H), 2nd (Walsall H)

Was this the best month of the Welshman's up and down Reading career? Hal looked a man transformed throughout January, running with enthusiasm and creating chances aplenty for himself and others. Three MOTM wins as voted by you, a very impressive run of games as he, too, tries to earn a new deal here or elsewhere. But that's a debate for another day...!

Matej Vydra

Average rating: 6.43 (7 appearances); Man Of The Match wins: 1st (Hudderfield Town H), 3rd (Huddersfield Town A), 3rd (Bristol City H)

He might divide opinion and he might not score many in the league, but there's no doubting that the Czech striker has a real love of a cup goal. Six in the three FA Cup matches played in January showed us exactly what Vydra is capable of; Brian McDermott and the rest of the Reading support are dearly hoping he can now take that sensational purple patch into the league too.

Danny Williams

Average rating: 5.86 (7 appearances); Man Of The Match wins: 1st (Walsall H), 3rd (Sheffield Wednesday H)

When he's on form, he's almost unplayable. Williams added to his impressive goal tally this year with another couple of great strikes, including a blinding solo effort to finish off Walsall last week. Swansea were rumoured to be on his trail on deadline day but nothing came of those whisperings; that could be Reading's gain as the American looks to continue impressing in the middle of the park.

Those are your four nominees - we'll announce the results at the end of the week!
