Reading FC Coach Linked With Celtic Move

Former Reading manager Brendan Rodgers is busy putting together his new backroom team at Celtic and reports in Scotland suggest that could include a current member of Brian McDermott's coaching staff.

Reports in the Daily Record have suggested that new Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in Reading's First Team Coach Chris Davies. Davies came through the Reading Academy as a player under Rodgers and after quitting the game early, worked with his former Academy boss at both Swansea and Liverpool. Brendan's sacking at Anfield led to Davies also leaving the club and in January he returned to the Madejski Stadium to link up with Brian McDermott.

Now with Brendan back in work, Davies has been linked with rejoining his old mentor, a move that would see Brian McDermott needing to make a third change at the senior staffing level in just six months, after Terry Burton also quit the club weeks after his appointment.

Whether this will be a major blow remains to be seen. Davies was credited as a set piece expert and while we did seem to marginally improve in that area as the season wore on, it was still hard to see a vast improvement. After all, just one goal came from a corner in the Championship under Brian's management. Likewise, Davies  didn't seem a vocal presence on the touchline, while also being rarely mentioned in interviews with players. In fact, there's not even a picture of him we can find to use here for this very article!

So what do you think folks? Loss to the club or a good time to move on? You can read the Daily Record's full story here.
