Reading FC Pre-Madejski Stadium Home Kits World Cup 1891-1938 v 1994-1996

Our last quarter final sees stripes versus hoops and a manager wearing a bowler hat versus a manager in a bad early 1990s sports jumper. Which will you vote for?

1891-1938

Two-thirds of you preferred this kit to our early 1980s Argentina kit. In the 21st century navy and white stripes does not feel like a Reading home kit. Despite that there is something wonderful about this kit and photo. The manager wearing a bowler hat stands out. The retro football and boots look nothing like their modern equivalents.

It is also noticeable how much older the players look compared to today's footballers. Most of them look like they've in their thirties at best, but as far as I know most are in their twenties.

1994-1996

93% of you voted for this Pelada kit, which is not surprising given how fondly the below team are remembered. I personally think this kit shows why white shorts and socks work better for Reading.

This is another team photo with some wonderful historical "relics". Everyone wearing black boots is much preferable to the naff colours today's footballers wear. Less good is the curtains haircut on Alan Carey, Dylan Kerr, Paul Holsgrove and Simon Osborn.
