Not much was made of Hayden Mullins role at the Madejski Stadium, but it's the Reading-native who Leigertwood replaces. Moving to Watford last week, Mullins oversaw the progress of Royals players who were out on loan, acting as a go-between for the player and two clubs involved. The former midfielder is now Under-21s assistant coach with the Hornets.

That brings in ex-Antigua and Barbuda international Leigertwood, whose official title is Academy Loan Manager. The defensive midfielder hung his boots up after being unable to find a new club when leaving the Royals in 2014, winning the Championship and being subsequently relegated in his time at Madejski Stadium.

Of course, Leigertwood initially joined the club on loan from Queens Park Rangers, during which time Reading made the play-off final. He also enjoyed a short loan spell with Leyton Orient while coming through the ranks at Wimbledon, making him a fairly qualified candidate for the job.
