So, about that new striker. Yeah, according to reports that may not be happening however hard the club are trying to get a deal across the line.

However, there has been some activity involving the Royals on deadline day, with a trio of youngsters going out on loan - Jack Stacey, Tariqe Fosu and Dom Hyam, both of whom were involved in the 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy yesterday.

Stacey, who scored Reading's first goal and earned praise in our player match ratings, has secured a switch to League Two side Exeter City until January, where he will reunited with fellow Reading academy graduates Jake Taylor and Pierce Sweeney.

It is the winger's third temporary move away from the Madejski, having played for Barnet and Carlisle in the previous two seasons. The 20 year old's debut for Reading came against Ipswich in August 2014, and he has since made six appearances for the first, four as substitute.

Meanwhile, Fosu, who was on loan at Accrington last season where he won the League Two Player of the Month award for April, has signed for Colchester United, also until January. The 20 year old is rated very highly amongst fans, but has only made one appearance for the first team against Derby in May 2015.

Finally, Hyam, who is the only one out of the three not to have made a senior appearance for the Royals, has joined Portsmouth, once again until January. This comes after his loan spell at Dagenham & Redbridge last season gave him his first taste of senior football.
