The entertaining Ian Holloway visited Hogwood Park this week to have a long interview with Jaap Stam on his start at Reading. The interview also covers his playing career, family life and how he's learnt to balance his driven search for improvement with enjoying life.
Most interestingly for Reading fans he talks about the style of football he wants to implement at the Madejski Stadium. Since taking charge he has set up the Royals in a Dutch-style 4-3-3 formation, but he recognises the need for that to be flexible and able to morph into other formations, such as 3-5-2, when need be.
He said the main thing was that Reading played attractive football high up the pitch and admitted that some of the younger players have found this new style difficult to cope with. Stam also offered a slight criticism of modern day youngsters saying that he felt they were too quick to move from the mistakes they made in games.
Holloway is a friendly and engaging interviewee which helps makes this an interview that is worth watching for Reading fans to get a better insight into what makes our new manager tick. His message that "you cannot expect miracles straight away" is certainly one that our fans and owners would do to remember.
