Reading have confirmed the signing of 28-year-old Romania winger Adrian Popa on a three and a half year deal from Steaua Bucharest. The fee is officially undisclosed but reported as being around the £500,000 mark.
Having spent his whole career in Romania, he's got a goal return of 34 goals in 210 league games, plus another two in 49 European appearances. Along the way he's managed three Romanian Championships plus another four cup titles.
Popa also represented his country at the 2016 European Championship in France, with an overall total of 23 caps and four goals.
Speaking on the deal, Reading boss Jaap Stam told the club's website:
“Adrian is a forward with enormous potential who has played at a high level in Romania as well as in European and international football.
“He is an experienced player, who is quick, a constant threat to the opposition, good on the ball and who is comfortable playing on the left, on the right or even up front in a two.
“With the amount of games we have coming up, a player of his quality will make it easier for us to rotate a little more and give some players a rest if we need to, so I’m delighted to have him here as part of our squad.”
We've already taken a look at Popa through the eyes of the Football Manager database, and will have more analysis on our new signing in the days to come.
In the meantime, Bine ati venit Adrian!
