While the international break is known for claiming the odd injury casualty, it’s closer to home that Reading have suffered a massive fitness blow as Jordan Obita’s been confirmed as out for the rest of the 2017/18 campaign.
The left-back suffered a painful looking knee injury in the 1-1 draw at home to Hull City a couple of weeks back and the club have now announced that it’s ended Obita’s season.
Since that game, the former England Under-21 international has undergone reconstructive surgery on his ACL and now begins a long rehabilitation programme.
That leaves Tyler Blackett as the only natural left-back in the squad until January at least, with academy product Omar Richards and Chris Gunter also options. However Reading also haven’t got that many right-backs, so shifting the Welshman over is no long-term solution.
Here’s to Obita’s full recovery, and hopefully the squad rallying around the loss of such a key player.
